Soil Restoration for Stormwater Workshop

Join stormwater practitioners for a hands-on workshop on soil health and stormwater performance. Learn how development affects soils and explore proven restoration methods used by cities and watershed districts. Attendees receive updated Minnesota Stormwater Manual guidance and see live demonstrations of soil assessment, deep aeration, compost topdressing, and decompaction equipment. Lunch will be provided.

MPCA Industrial Stormwater General Permit Application Service Ready

Industrial Stormwater General Permit Holders

The MPCA is now ready to accept applications for coverage under the 2025 Multi-sector General Permit (MSGP) for Industrial Stormwater. All industrial facilities who have been operating under the 2020 issuance of the MSGP must now log in to e-Services and complete an application to continue coverage. All previously held ISW general permits will be considered expired at the end of August 2026.

A copy of the 2025 Multi-sector General Permit for Industrial Stormwater can be found on the MPCA website.

No Exposure Certifiers

All No Exposure certifications in Minnesota are expired. Regardless of when your facility last applied for the No Exposure certification, if you want to maintain the No Exposure status of your facility, you must now apply in e-Services.

MS4 Permit Reissuance Update

The MS4 Permit is still anticipated to be released later this summer (September). We have not seen what, if any changes the MPCA has made to the permit. There are additional details regarding comments that the MPCA has received on their MS4 General Permit website

The MCSC plans to host a listening session once the permit is released for public comment. The comment period goes by quickly with limited time to discuss comments, so please keep an eye out for this opportunity soon.

  • National Stormwater Awareness Week – September 21-25, 2026

    Storm Water Awareness Week is a collaboration effort of the storm water community that exists to provide an opportunity for earning continuing education hours free of charge. It is a national educational initiative dedicated to raising public awareness about the environmental impact of stormwater runoff and pollution. To combat this, local governments, environmental organizations, and industry experts collaborate during a designated week in September (2026) to host events that teach the public how to safeguard water quality and manage infrastructure responsibly. This event is comprised of dozens of online workshops hosted by presenters from around the nation during the week of the event. Randy Neprash will be presenting at one of the workshops on 9/23/26 about MS4s that became unregulated due to the census update. There are many different topics and sessions that are free to register for so if feeding your brain stormwater insights sounds like a good time then this is for you! Some of the hands-on community events recommended include river clean-up events, participating in an "Adopt-a-Drain" program to keep catch basin grates clear of debris, or attending free public webinars and virtual training workshops hosted by organizations like the Storm Water Awareness Week Organization.

    Two volunteer areas exist. 1. Education Content Development-Creating content to teach a learner a specific skill or competency from the microcredential outline. 2. Item Writing-Developing exam questions that assess the knowledge and skills essential to successful job performance. Item writers play a key role in ensuring the exam aligns with real-world practice.
